Ubuntu 8.10 “Intrepid” Release Candidate will be out by the end of the week, and the final by the end of the month. I want to spend the next week outlining all the different methods of upgrading and installing. If you’re planning on upgrading to final you’ll be able to find step-by-step instructions here.
I’ll begin tomorrow with upgrading via your update-manager.

Wouldn’t it be nice to install any distribution from an USB stick? I guess it would be a good idea to make a tutorial for it.
(I found it quite complicated…)

Perhaps you could clarify something for me. I often just do a clean install instead of upgrading but I keep my /home on a separate partition so all I have to do is reinstall a few additional apps, etc. However, what happens to the hidden files on /home during a clean install? Is it possible for the new version to have problems if old settings files are reused rather than recreated? Is there a preferred way to do this other than the official upgrade?
those complicated days are over!
