Ubuntu has released the third release client of Edgy Eft (Ubuntu version 6.10). You can find the cd images at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/edgy/knot-3/
You can find more information about this release at:
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/knot3
You can also update using aptitude or Synaptic. To update using that method use the steps below:
- sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list.
- Find/Replace (%s/dapper/edgy) all instances of dapper to edgy in that file.
- sudo aptitude update
- sudo aptitude upgrade
- sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
- repeat steps 3 – 5 until no more updates are offered.
- If you recieve any messages about files being held back despite repeats of steps 3 – 5. Manually install those files using ‘sudo aptitude install <list of held back files>‘ Also, in response to a previous issue you may need to manually ‘sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop‘ –These addresses an issue in the previous release which may still arise in release 3.
The Ubuntu Team reminds you that this release is still in Alpha state so you’re not advised to install it on production critial machines. Personally I have been running the alpha 2 release on three machines with a minimum of issues. This release should be even better. Good luck & happy bug-hunting!
