With the recent release of Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft Beta I wanted to outline how to upgrade easily. I have now updated three of my machines and they are all very reliable.
For those interested in updating you can use the following command (via ALT-F2 or the terminal)
gksu "update-manager -c -d"
This should check your system for available updates, notify you that a distribution upgrade is available & ask you to verify. After verifying that you’d like to upgrade your system the rest of the process is mostly automated. Go thru the steps, finish the upgrade, reboot and done. Note: I have noticed you might need to repeat the process after a reboot simply to verify it is completed or finish any pending packages.
Hello, I’m a noob, trying to upgrade
Edubuntu 6.06 to 6.10 to 7.04. To
date I have installed from CD 7.04 on my Sony VIO laptop, which is on a
second linux partition. I have
win2k,Edubuntu6.06, and Edubuntu 7.04
Now i’ve learned t he best way is
to upgrafe from 6.06-6.10-7.04, but the scripts give problems. I get messages
incorrect permission, file not found etc
etc.edit sources.list, without any inubuntu structions on the editor. I have
found an excellent tutorial on vi
none on vim. now cannot find
sources.list
another question is Edubuntu always
available if ubuntu is?
I ve problem during upgrading dapper to edgy.

What should I do?
Thank you.
Hidayat – I would suggest trying a different repository. Perhaps just try to use archive.ubuntu.com vs jp.archive.ubuntu.com and see if its able to find those.
Also make sure prior to any upgrade that you do:
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop (or kubuntu-desktop)
sudo aptitude upgrade
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
