“Linux is a registered trademark of Linux Torvalds”

By | 2007/09/09

I was just looking through my swag-bag from the Utah Open Source Conference and noticed something a little off on the SUSE Linux Enterprise “evaluation” CD that were included from Novell.  On the back of the CD set, under the Novell logo it reads:

…”*Linux is a registered trademark of Linux Torvalds”

Linux Torvalds?  I have so many directions I could go with this, but I think I’ll just leave it up to your imaginations.

I’m not sure where you’re trying to go with this, but Linus has been the trademark/copyright owner of Linux for years.

What are you trying to say?

I think he’s trying to point out the spelling mistake… that “Linux Torvalds” is actually “Linus Torvalds”… with an ‘s’?

It’s an easy mistake to make, Linux and Linus are similar… but you would think that the SUSE guys would know what the guy who started it all was called 🙂

OK, I’m a open/suse fan(ducks as people throw stuff at him). But monday morning I’m going up the marketing or whoever and going to show them.

Not only is math and science going out, but english too??? Freak, why don’t we just start opening sweat shops in the US and get it over with!

With “Linus” not being an English word, but a name, I fail to see the point of that sweatshops remark.

Yes I agree with Tautoa. It’s an easy mistake. Not only phonetically but also when typing on a keyboard. The letter “x” is diagonally below the “s” so if you’d learned to type with a dactylo software you type it with the same finger (the left ring finger). Thereby, the mistake is easy to make.

All mistakes are easy, it’s getting things right which is difficult. This kind of stuff is like a spelling mistake in a resume, not a good sign.
